  • Your team needs a shared workspace, SSO or a HIPAA agreement for dictation.

Where they differ

Where your words and meetings are processed

Wispr Flow says transcription always happens in the cloud, for dictation and for Notetaker’s meetings. Summaries use third-party AI providers, meeting transcripts sync to Wispr’s private cloud, and your data is processed in the United States.

Kimiko starts with local speech and AI models for meetings and dictation. Transcripts, notes and summaries stay in an encrypted database on your computer. You can still connect a cloud provider for a feature, with your own account, when you want one.

Dictating into your other apps

On a computer, both apps type what you say into the app you’re using when you press a shortcut. Wispr Flow also dictates on iPhone and Android, and lets you dictate while Notetaker records a meeting.

Kimiko dictates on Mac and Windows with a local speech model or a cloud provider you choose. Its formatting runs from the plain transcript to an AI polish that adapts to the app you’re in. Finish a meeting recording before you dictate, since both need the microphone.

Working without internet

Wispr Flow’s Notetaker keeps recording if your connection drops and transcribes once you’re back online. Dictation needs a connection, because it’s transcribed in the cloud. Kimiko’s downloaded models keep dictating, transcribing and summarizing without internet. Setup, model downloads, activation and subscription checks still need a connection.

Phones, teams and certifications

Wispr Flow reaches more devices and more of a company’s needs. It has a free plan, phone apps for dictation, a shared workspace on Pro and SSO on Growth, and it’s SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified. Notetaker launched after those audits, and a signed HIPAA agreement covers dictation and turns Notetaker off. It can also import your Granola and Otter history.

Kimiko is a desktop app for your own notes, meetings and tasks. It connects to your calendar and, through local MCP, to the AI apps on your computer, and it exports PDF, Word or Markdown files you can share anywhere.

Questions

What’s the best Wispr Flow alternative for Windows?

Wispr Flow itself runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11, so the best alternative depends on what you want to change. If you want dictation and meeting notes processed on your own PC, Kimiko does both on 64-bit Windows 11 and Apple silicon Macs, with local models by default.

Does Wispr Flow take meeting notes?

Yes. Its Notetaker records meetings on your Mac or Windows computer without a bot, names speakers and writes a summary with next steps. It comes with Wispr Flow’s dictation, on the free plan too.

Does Wispr Flow work offline?

Partly. Wispr Flow transcribes in the cloud, so dictation needs a connection, while Notetaker keeps recording offline and transcribes once you reconnect. Kimiko’s local models dictate, transcribe and summarize without internet once they’re downloaded.

Does Wispr Flow use my dictation to train AI?

It depends on a setting in Wispr Flow, Improve the model for everyone, which is always off on the Growth and Enterprise plans. Wispr adds that the third-party AI providers behind its cloud transcription and summaries have their own training terms. Your Kimiko meetings and dictations don’t reach Kimiko’s servers, and a cloud provider you choose applies its own terms.

Is Kimiko cheaper than Wispr Flow?

It depends on the plan. Wispr Flow’s free plan has a weekly dictation limit, and Pro costs US$12 per user a month billed annually, or US$15 billed monthly. Kimiko is one plan for the full app, monthly or annual; the prices are in the Pricing section above.
